Everybody Loves Touda (2024), directed by Nabil Ayouch, is a poignant Moroccan drama that tells the story of Touda, a young woman determined to become a Sheikha, a traditional Moroccan singer. Living a challenging life in a society that judges her, Touda dreams of a better future for herself and her deaf son, while performing in local bars. The film premiered in the Cannes Premiere section at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, and was selected as Morocco’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards. It has since been showcased at other prestigious international festivals, earning acclaim for its heartfelt portrayal of resilience and hope.

NABIL AYOUCH

Nabil Ayouch is a renowned Moroccan filmmaker and a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures, the César Academy, and a founding member of the Arab Film Academy. He gained recognition with his first short film, Les Pierres Bleues du Désert (1992), and made his feature debut with Mektoub (1997), which represented Morocco at the Oscars. His acclaimed films Ali Zaoua: Prince of the Streets (2000), Horses of God (2012), Much Loved (2015), and Razzia (2017) have won numerous international awards and were Morocco’s official Oscar submissions.Ayouch has also played a significant role in the Moroccan film industry, founding Ali n’ Productions in 1999 to support emerging filmmakers. He has produced major films, including Adam (2019) and The Blue Caftan (2022), both premiering at the Cannes Film Festival. His latest film, Everybody Loves Touda (2024), is selected for the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival.Beyond cinema, Ayouch is dedicated to social and cultural development. He established the Ali Zaoua Foundation and launched cultural centers across Morocco, offering artistic education to youth in marginalized communities. His work has left a profound impact on Moroccan cinema and culture.
